Colorado Roots Music Camp

Music: General

Join Colorado Roots Music Camp in the summer for a week of bluegrass, folk, blues, swing, jazz, Irish, flatpicked and fingerstyle guitar, mandolin, banjo, fiddle, bass, singing, learning, and fun! Break out of your routine and be inspired by a variety of styles, first-rate musicians, and the incredible experience of being immersed in acoustic music. The instructors are some of the top players in the nation, chosen because they are known by peers and students as great instructors for all levels. Class sizes are small, with an average 10:1 student-teacher ratio, so you will be sure to get plenty of individual attention. There are classes, concerts, master classes, seminars, and jamming! From over 30 hands-on classes offered over a broad range of levels, instruments, styles, and subjects, you select those that appeal to you. There will also be concerts by instructors and campers, master classes for up-close individualized learning, seminars on interesting and fun topics, and jamming! And, if you are new to jamming, there are courses specifically designed to get you started. Whether you are just starting out or an advanced player, there are over 35 classes to inspire, inform, and challenge. Each instructor teaches a variety of levels and brings a wealth of fundamentals, technique, and style to each class. All ages are welcome! Campers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. You are welcome to attend the camp as a companion of a camper, at a reduced rate. While you will not attend classes, instructor one-on-ones, jams or seminars, you are welcome to attend all concerts, meals, and stay in the camp lodging. The camp itself is a beautiful retreat, and there are also many great things to see and do close by. Camps take place at the Rocky Mountain Mennonite Camp high in the mountains near Divide, Colorado, surrounded by spruce, pine, and aspen forest as well as beautiful rock formations and premier hiking trails. If you are new or old, if you need challenge or something new, if you are on a plateau and need inspiration or if you just want to peg your fun meter, the Colorado Roots Music Camp is for you.

Colorado Springs Children's Chorale

The Colorado Spring's Children's Chorale celebrates a legacy of promoting a musical message and children gaining so much more than a song. The Colorado Springs Children’s Chorale was founded in 1977 as a civic children’s choir. From humble roots it has grown to be an organization with five choirs and a annual enrollment of nearly 200 children in grades one through twelve throughout the Pikes Peak Region. The Chorale’s musical excellence has earned it national and international recognition as one of the country’s outstanding children’s choirs, and it has been honored with three first place or gold medals in international competitions. The Chorale has traveled to Japan, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Great Britain, and South Africa. In the United States, the organization has performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. and at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Colorado Springs Chinese Cultural Institute provides a forum for greater appreciation of Chinese culture through education and social interaction. Consequently, people are showing more interest in learning about China, its people and their cultures. Until the Institute was created, there had not been any organization in this community to focus the interests of both the people wanting to learn more about China and those of Chinese heritage who are living here.

Colorado Springs Chorale

Founded in 1956, the Colorado Springs Chorale is the oldest continuously performing community organization for vocal artists in the state of Colorado. The Chorale and its outreach arm, the Chamber Singers of the Colorado Springs Chorale, contribute to the cultural richness of the Pikes Peak Region while providing an artistically rewarding choral experience for talented singers. The Chorale is a 120-voice auditioned adult ensemble that functions as the premier symphonic chorus for the Pikes Peak region. Each season, the Chorale performs at its independently-produced concerts, and it also collaborates with ensembles in the region, including the Colorado Springs Philharmonic, Chamber Orchestra of the Springs, Air Force Band of the Rockies, Opera Theatre of the Rockies, and others. The heart and soul of the Chorale is its singing membership. The group is comprised of a cadre of dedicated volunteers—from young adults to retirees and from all walks of life—who participate in the Chorale’s work for the sheer love of their art. They are each well-trained in choral singing and musicianship, and give many hours of rehearsal to the perfecting of each concert. The Chorale sings a wide range of classical, contemporary and international music, including the masterworks of the choral repertoire. With its high caliber of vocal artistry and musicianship, it rivals professional choruses around the world.

Colorado Springs Philharmonic Guild

For more than half a century the Colorado Springs Philharmonic Guild (formerly the Colorado Springs Symphony Guild) has actively supported symphonic music in the Pikes Peak region. The purpose of the Guild is to exclusively support the Colorado Springs Philharmonic Orchestra and the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony Young Artists Solo Competition scholarship program. The Guild also promotes an atmosphere of friendship through social activities, appreciation and enjoyment of symphonic music. They support the gift giving through varied fundraising projects. In recent years the Guild has raised over a half million dollars in support of Colorado Springs symphonic music organizations. Annually the Guild awards music scholarships to the three top winners of the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony’s annual Young Artist Solo Competition.

Ignite Your Curiosity. Discover Your Story. The Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum, located in the elegantly restored El Paso County Courthouse (1903), portrays the history and culture of the Pikes Peak Region in exhibits, emphasizing the unique character of this uncommon Front Range community. The CSPM preserves the unique history of the Pikes Peak Region in order to increase appreciation of the area's heritage and enrich the lives of citizens and visitors. As the focal point of the city’s lovely downtown, the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum draws thousands of people to the area annually. Centered in one of two primary downtown parks, this elegant and historic structure is surrounded by inviting green lawns, colorful flowers, and outdoor sculptures. Guided by a mission to collect, preserve, research, and interpret the history and culture of the Pikes Peak Region, the Museum features permanent exhibits on the history of the area and changing exhibits on topics of broad interest. The Museum’s active changing exhibition schedule has featured subjects as diverse as Western art, antique quilts, Plains and Pueblo Indian culture, and space exploration. Popular culture exhibits have included such topics as juke boxes, motorcycles, and baseball memorabilia. A major attraction are the murals, by local artist Eric Bransby, which depict the story of the Pikes Peak Region from early human occupancy to the building of the Air Force Academy. The Museum has over 60,000 objects in its collection including nationally significant collections of quilts, Van Briggle art pottery, plus the finest regional art collection in the state of Colorado. The Native American collection includes hundreds of items representative of the Ute, Cheyenne, and Arapaho cultures. A portion of author Helen Hunt Jackson’s house is reconstructed in the Museum, furnished with her original possessions. Other collections relate to the founding of the City, the area’s mining and agricultural history, its early prominence as a health resort, and its more recent significance as a center for military training and operations. The Museum houses the Starsmore Center for Local History, an archives and research library, which concentrates on items related to the Pikes Peak Region. Included in these collections are: manuscript collections pertaining to the history of the area and its people; early images of Colorado Springs; bound newspapers; and city directories dating from the 1870’s. These materials are used by the public for genealogical and historical research, films, books, articles, and school projects. Of particular significance to Colorado Springs are the personal papers of city-founder and railroad-builder General William Jackson Palmer. Public programs range from scholarly presentations to family festivals and school field trips. The Museum has been host to a variety of events: lectures on the American cowboy, Hispanic and African-American celebrations, and antique auto shows. Wedding ceremonies, classical music concerts and plays have been featured in the exquisitely restored Division I Courtroom on the Museum’s upper floor, and summer jazz has delighted thousands in the surrounding park. A vital community outreach program provides tours, speakers, presentations for schools, and other special programs. With a dedicated corps of volunteers, guided tours are provided to more than 8,000 of the 75,000 people who visit the museum annually. Fully accredited by the American Association of Museums, and winner of local and national awards for excellence, the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum offers a rewarding and enjoyable experience for people of all ages and interests. A visit provides a look into the spirit, past and present, of the city nestled at the foot of Pikes Peak, America’s most famous mountain.

Colorado Springs Sister Cities International is a dedicated group of individuals that promotes cultural, educational, humanitarian and economic relationships with cities throughout the world. Relationships and exchanges are made by formal agreement with selected global partners at the municipal government level. The Sister City program began in 1962 when Colorado Springs became partners with the city of Fujiyoshida, Japan. Other cities include Kaohsiung, Taiwan; Smolensk, Russia; Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan; Nuevo Casas Grandes, Mexico; and Bankstown, Australia. CSSCI is recognized by Sister Cities International (SCI), a citizen diplomacy network creating and strengthening partnerships between U.S. and international communities to increase global cooperation at the local level. The Sister City approach to international exchanges centers on citizen-to-citizen diplomacy. Sister Cities International was founded in 1956 by U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower. It remains renowned worldwide as a distinguished people-to-people program that fosters international understanding. SCI works to promote cultural understanding, social development and economic growth, and as a national membership organization officially certifies links between U.S. communities and those abroad to ensure their sustained commitment and success in this mission. The SCI network represents more than 2,100 communities in 121 countries around the world and is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
