Andante Blues, Colorado Springs’ weekly blues dance, began meeting weekly in 2013 to celebrate and enjoy the American tradition of social dancing.

Andante Blues celebrates and experiences a unique piece of American history that grew up alongside its more visible cousin: swing. Like swing, blues evolved from African rhythms and movements. Historically, blues dancing was not widely performed or socially practiced in the United States outside of Black communities. It was born and grew up in smoky Juke Joints, house parties, and rent parties. These small, cozy origins give it an intimate, casual feel. Today, we can look back on this legacy and participate in a dance that pays homage to the past, while still being unique, accessible, and enjoyable for those not yet familiar with its long, storied history.
