Eve Tilley, a native of Colorado Springs, is probably best known for having presided over the Pikes Peak Arts Council from 1996 – 2009, or as columnist for Springs Magazine from 2004 - 2009. She also is known for working with the Star Bar Players theatre troupe as producer, actress and director from 1984 – 1991, and most recently with the MAT - Millibo Art Theatre - as a director. She is not well known, however, as a visual artist.
Eve has been an artist beginning at age 2 with paintings of large angry faces using tempera paint on newsprint. She was a student of the Bemis Art School from 1954 until 1958, where she studied ceramics, copper enameling, linoleum and woodblock printing, painting and collage. A self-taught silk screen artist, she created posters for the Colorado College Drama and Dance Department from 1964-1968, Widefield High School Drama Department from 1969 – 1971, and Ruth Washburn Cooperative Nursery School from 1976 – 1984. She also created their logo as well as the logo for the Star Bar Players. In 2002, she won the “People’s choice Award” for “Vanity Chair” in the Imagination Celebration’s “Chairity Auction” and in 2003, she was awarded the “Springs Magazine Award for Best Technical Execution” for “Paper or Plastic” in “Body Packaging III: Identity Crisis.”
She has been creating pop-up cards since 1972, both as single copies and silk-screened versions for mass mailing. Most of these recent cards were generated in Publisher and cut out by a Silhouette Craft Cutter.
