Lorraine Watry is a Colorado contemporary realist painter of waterscapes, landscapes, and reflective objects. Her art is characterized by bright colors, dramatic light and realistic reflections.

Lorraine has a Bachelor of Fine Art from the University of Colorado in Boulder with an emphasis in drawing. After college, she designed clip art at a graphics company for several years. Lorraine began working with watercolor 23 years ago. She taught watercolor at Pikes Peak Community College and currently teaches watercolor and drawing to small classes at her studio. She also teaches classes and workshops at other venues. Lorraine enjoys passing on her love of the watercolor medium to her students.

Lorraine illuminates qualities that often go unnoticed by the casual observer. Her scenes contain detail and bright colors and she likes to marry the realistic with very detailed, graphic surroundings. Lorraine likes the challenge of painting reflections in water and glass and while helping with her son’s high school band she became intrigued with reflections in band instruments.

Lorraine’s painting, “Lilies and Glass Globes” was awarded Best in Show at the 25th Annual Colorado Watercolor Society, 2016 State Exhibit. In 2015, Lorraine’s painting, ‘Sonata for Horns’ was juried into the prestigious, International exhibition - the Shenzhen Biennial in China. Lorraine's painting, ‘Shows Over’, was juried into the Best of Watercolor Book Series - 'Splash 14 - Light and Color. Her paintings are winners of prestigious awards from the National Watercolor Society and other juried exhibitions including Rocky Mountain National and the Transparent Watercolor Society. She has received recognition from several art publications including - The Artist Magazine, Pratique des Arts, and International Artists Magazine. Lorraine has achieved Signature Status in the National Watercolor Society, Rocky Mountain National Watercolor Society, Colorado Watercolor Society and the Pikes Peak Watercolor Society. She has studied with master watercolor artists - John Salminen, Linda Baker, and Ted Nuttall.

Lorraine exhibits at Arati Artists Gallery in Old Colorado City and Boulder Street Gallery in Colorado Springs, CO.
