Silk Paper or is it Fabric?

Silk Paper or is it Fabric?

Presented by Textiles West at Textiles West

Nothing compares to the lustrous color and feel of silk. In this class, we will create silk paper that is also a fabric! We use luscious hand dyed silk hankies, roving and carrier rods.

A wet laminating process allows us to layer fibers to create beautiful ethereal fabrics for embellishment as well as thicker fabric suitable for substrates and vessels. You will have the option of making a small bowl.

You will make 4-6 sheets of delicious silk fabric/paper for your fabric and mixed media art. Use these silk papers in collage, as embellishment, journal covers and vessels.

Instructor Bio: Why I Sew -

I have been intrigued with stitching since I was a child. I have never lost the feeling that something magical happens when you combine fabric and stitch. There are just so many possibilities….will this fabric want to be a bag, a journal cover, or a skirt or become part of a special story in collage? Fabric is such a malleable material. It can be draped, sculpted, textured or smooth. Stitching is so incredibly satisfying….why would anyone not sew?
