Celebrate the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Monday, Jan. 20, 2020.

The celebrations begin with the “All People’s Breakfast,” , featuring keynote speaker Ryan P. Haygood ’97, Esq. presenting “Where Do We Go from Here: Chaos or Community?”

The All People’s Breakfast will also include performances by: The Fellas, featuring Bailey Hinton and special guest Kevin Daniels, the William J. Palmer High School Drumline, and CC student group Ellement.

The breakfast is followed by a community rally and march. Meet in the Worner Campus Center lobby (902 N. Cascade Ave.) to warm up and learn about community partners before marching in unity to Acacia Park for a brief rally, featuring the William J. Palmer High School Drumline, Minister Earl Schaffer, Jr., True Spirit Baptist Church Choir, Nicholas Crutcher of the Cornerstone Group, and Dr. Nathaniel Granger.

The First Mondays presentation - "Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: The Visionary, the Truth Teller, and Most Hated Person in America” - will also be delivered by Ryan P. Haygood ’97, Esq., at 11 a.m. in Kathryn Mohrman Theatre (14 E. Cache La Poudre St.).

One of the nation’s leading civil rights lawyers, Haygood is the executive director and chief executive officer of the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice. An advocate for equity, he works to empower urban communities; Haygood also speaks and writes regularly on issues concerning race, law, civil rights, and democracy.

The day wraps up with the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble performing at 7 p.m. in Kathryn Mohrman Auditorium (14 E. Cache La Poudre St.).

The ensemble is internationally esteemed as one of America’s foremost modern dance companies, performing dynamic bodies of work inspired by the African-American experience and rooted in ethnic and modern dance traditions worldwide. The program will also feature special guests from the Gospel Music Workshop of America-Colorado Springs Chapter. This event is free and open to the public; no tickets required.
