Songwriters in the Round

Presented by Tri-Lakes Center for the Arts at Tri-Lakes Center for the Arts

Rebecca Folsom’s world-class voice traverses a near-four-octave range, has been described as “knock-you-to-your-knees”, “shining,” and “her songs hit like little earthquakes!” Rebecca brings both a pure vocal quality reminiscent of old Appalachia and a blues prowess. She leads audiences on a dynamic journey of the heart.

Songs off her newest CD's, “Extraordinary Days” and “Little Medicines,” went to #1 on the Folk DJ Chart, #5 on Roots Music Report, and #5 on the National Americana Chart. Folsom offers a delicious blend of front porch instrumentals, achingly beautiful vocals, and soaring harmonies.

A true renaissance woman, Rebecca is a singer-songwriter, recording artist and national touring musician, a published author of poetry, oil painter, and teacher of Creative Mastery.

Buddy Mondlock writes songs. He does it so well that some great songwriters have recorded his songs on their own albums. Guy Clark, Nanci Griffith, and Janis Ian, to name just a few. You mightʼve heard his song “The Kid” (recorded by David Wilcox, Peter, Paul and Mary and Cry, Cry, Cry) and maybe even sung it yourself around a campfire.

He draws you into his world – where a single snowflake follows the trajectory of a relationship, where you get you pocket picked by a Roman cat, where you might swim over the edge of the world if youʼre not careful and where dreams that donʼt come true still count.

Liz Barnez was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and grew up inspired by jazz, blues, folk, gospel, R&B, Dixieland, funk, and parade music. She embraced the diversity of her musical and creative upbringing and transformed those into her own eclectic style of music. Liz returned to Fort Collins in 2008 and continued to perform with her band as well as solo performances.

The Bohemian Foundation honored Liz in 2011 by including her in a mural at “Jazz Alley” in Fort Collins. The mural, by artist Terry McNerney, depicts eight musical artists chosen by Bohemian as the founders of the Fort Collins Music Scene. Liz was awarded the “Lifetime Achievement Award” by the Fort Collins Musicians Association in 2012.

Mary Huckins “There are not many writers whose music and presentation moves me these days. We are inundated with country music that is trying hard to be rock-n-roll with a twang. They beat us to death with loud guitars and meaningless lyrics… Then there’s Dakota Blonde. A group performing well written songs and singing them with heart and soul. There is both a simplicity and depth in Mary Huckins songs that most writers can only wish for… She takes the hard road.

She lives, she listens and she observes, and then she writes about it. Those of us who are lucky get to hear the songs. We tell our friends and they tell their friends and good songs get heard. A hard way to go but well worth it ”
