Come make a mask as 'A Way to Understand Ourself.'

Masks represent the different faces that we present to the world and to ourselves. Each of us reveals ourselves slightly differently in different settings depending on the occasion, the other people and our own feelings.

“There is nothing pejorative about the word “mask” — it simply connotes the coverings we inhabit, from the clothing of our physical forms, to our character traits to the stories of our families, cultures and religions. We cannot fully unmask ourselves (one mask will be replaced by another). We can though strive to be aware of all of our masks.” (David Sanders, Psychologist and found of the Kabbalah Experience in Denver.)

Each of us has many social roles. Some of these are imposed, others are of our own making: some are comfortable while others are awkward. After discussing the role of masks and reflecting on how we have relied on, resented or loved tapping into the skill of adapting our personality, each participant will create their own mask.

Creating a mask is a way to explore the different faces that we present to others in the many ‘worlds’ in which we engage. This is an opportunity to clarify social expectations and identify our value.

Bio:

Throughout my life I have managed to incorporate art.  I have relied on pen and paper for personal expression and reflection throughout my education, parenting and travel.  My primary field of health education and communication has allowed me a great deal of freedom with opportunities to incorporate creativity in developing teaching materials and social marketing campaigns.

Influences on my art:

• During my formative years in New Jersey, I was fortunate enough to visit many art museums and take art classes. As a recreational therapist, teacher and trainer I have been made aware of the unique perspective held by each individual. This inspired my creativity.
