Poetry719 Virtual Denim Day

Presented by Poetry 719 at Online/Virtual Space

Join Poetry719 for a zoom open mic night of resistance, resiliency, and protest against sexual assault and violence. This open mic is a way for the community to use the power of our voices to speak out against sexual assault and support those who are survivors. Come to share stories poetry and listen!

This open mic is hosted by Ashley Cornelius.

All are encouraged to wear some form of denim!

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. April 29 is the 2020 Denim Day, the campaign was originally triggered by a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court where a rape conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped her rapist remove her jeans, thereby implying consent.

The following day, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim. This campaign has been going strong for 20 years.
