G44 Gallery is proud to present a new exhibit by Felicia Kelly, “Bric-A-Brac” opening Friday, July 3 from 5-8 p.m.
In the show The Good Place, Chidi says to Eleanor "You know the sound that a fork makes in the garbage disposal? That's the sound that my brain makes all the time." I've never related to anything more. This collection of work aims to represent the opposite of a fork in the garbage disposal. My goal is to create small accessible pieces which convey comfort and calm through quiet images and gentle colors in a world filled with uncertainty, anxiety, and a new fork in a new garbage disposal every day.
-----
My work has always been informed by activism, feminism, and political statements. On a formal level I work in the mediums of traditional women's crafts in attempt to elevate these humble materials to the level of an appreciated art form. Inspired by the concept of happiness as radical activism, I've taken my work in a direction that celebrates good- ness, intention, and interconnectedness.
My current work is simple and minimalistic, succinct and uncomplicated, and specifically executed to stand out against more frantic imagery. Visually it says ‘less is more’ in both composition and color. Pieces are often quiet and restrained in attempt to bring balance to an overstimulated world where a calm approach can be a welcome contrast.
My hope is for viewers to find a place of comfort in order to recharge energy, appreciate beauty, and continue pushing forward for goodness and progressive change in a refreshed and balanced mindset.
