Everything old is new again when the Smokebrush Red Crags Art and Agriculture House in Manitou Springs hosts an Elderberry Syrup Workshop on Sunday July 12.
Participants will be making a traditional recipe made with dried elderberries, raw honey, and other natural flavorings. Discussions will include the properties of every ingredient, the health-science behind elderberries, and the history and culture behind this “cure-all” syrup.
Elderberries have been used in Central Europe and North America for hundreds of years as a preventative natural medicine for colds, flu and other upper respiratory diseases. When it is made into a sweet syrup with other herbs and spices, Elderberry syrup becomes a great natural substitute for over-the-counter cough syrups.
The workshop will be held outdoors, is limited to eight participants, and all attendees must social distance and wear masks.
