Cottonwood Center for the Arts is excited to present our first juried exhibition for 2020, composed of artists from across the Pikes Peak region, working across every size and medium within the theme of the spirit of 1985.
1985 was the year of Reagan’s re-election, New Coke, the Achille Lauro, and “We Are The World.” It was the height of the Cold War, and a time of economic prosperity and unbridled consumerism.
Yuppies, punks, mods, and valley girls walked the same sidewalks. Salt-N-Pepa formed, with their first recording “Showstoppa.” Madonna performed the Virgin Tour. David Lee Roth left Van Halen. The art world was ruled by Warhol, Basquiat, Mapplethorpe, and Haring, and culture was awash in a neon palette.
Come see 1985 through the lens of local artists - offering their interpretation of this era for you to experience, consider, and enjoy.
Please make sure to bring a mask as they are required inside the building at all times.
