Smokebrush Farm and Agriculture House in Manitou Springs is hosting an informative and educational workshop exploring one of the greatest technological advancements in the history of humanity: An Introduction to Seed Saving.
Attendees will learn which crops are good for beginners, and why. There will be a demonstration of how to save seed from one of our personal favorites - tomatoes, as well as a brief tour of the farm to take a look at some of the Farm’s other seed crops.
“One of the greatest technological advancements in the history of humanity, the simple yet sophisticated art of saving seeds from desirable food crops and selecting for traits that makes that food more abundant, tastier, and regionally-adapted, has been the basis of nearly every food system worldwide for millennia.” says Smokebrush Farm manager Dylan Roberts, who will be hosting the afternoon. “These little unsung heroes have guided and shaped us, growing in our villages and fields, sleeping peacefully inside our homes, feeding people the world over.”
This event will be held outdoors, rain or shine, in order to maintain best practices when it comes to physical distancing. The workshop will be limited to 8 participants. All participants must wear a mask in order to attend and Dylan suggests wearing comfortable shoes.
