Novis Mortem Collective is presenting a collective of artists for October’s First Friday and is featuring modern Japanese American occult artist Akemi Tsutsui-Kunitake.
Novis Mortem Collective is presenting a collective of artists including jewelry makers, illustrators and painters, ento-taxidermists and curiosity-seekers. From beetles under glass to jewelry made from bones, crystals and shells, the collective seeks to add a little “weird” to Downtown Colorado Springs.
Akemi Tsutsui-Kunitake conjures modern Japanese American occult art through pen and ink. Hailing from Denver, Colorado, her work draws upon Japanese folklore, Western fairytales, mysticism and childlike wonder. She serves as a Cultural Consultant for the Japanese Arts Network and her artwork has been featured in publications such as MECZine and Asian Avenue.
When she is not crafting magical artworks, she runs her online shop, Live Deliciously; teaches at her family’s dojo; and is a kata athlete with USA Karate.
