Judo Demonstrations

Presented by United States Olympic & Paralympic Museum at United States Olympic & Paralympic Museum

The U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum is partnering with USA Judo to host Judo Demonstration Day at the Museum on Saturday, October 24. Leading up to World Judo Day on October 28 — which has a theme this year of “Stronger Together” – the Demonstration Day is designed to bring together the Judo community and also introduce the sport to others in a safe way.

Led by judo athletes including 2008 Olympian Ryan Reser, the demonstrations will take place at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Each demonstration will run 20 minutes followed by a question-and-answer period.

As part of the event, when purchasing tickets online guests can use the code “sport” to receive 20 percent off admission or bring this flyer to receive the discount on tickets purchased at the door.

Following the final demonstration, the Museum will recognize all Olympian and Paralympian judoka in attendance with their lifetime membership to the Museum. Among those expected to attend are Ed Liddie, 1984 Olympic bronze medalist, U.S. Olympic and Paralympic team coach and USA Judo high performance director; Joe Marchal, 1988 Olympian; Scott Moore, 2000 Paralympic champion and 1996 and 2004 bronze medalist; and Clifton ‘Clif’ Sunada, 1996 Olympian.

Additionally, at 2 p.m., the Museum will hold a virtual presentation with Jean Kanokogi, former USA Judo National Team member and daughter of Rena ‘Rusty’ Kanokogi, known around the world as the “mother of women’s Judo.” Approaching the 40th anniversary of the first Women’s World Judo Championships, Kanokogi will share her and her mother’s history on the evolution of women’s judo to the world and Olympic/Paralympic stage.
