Summer String Camp

Summer String Camp

Presented by Colorado Springs Conservatory at Colorado Springs Conservatory

Ages 7-10:

Come learn the basics of string-playing! Students will develop their technical and musical skills in a collaborative environment with an emphasis on right and left hand technique, ear training, note reading, instrument care, and basic ensemble playing.  We will use familiar folk tunes to train listening and attention skills, and students will learn how to seek and appreciate their own unique voice in playing music. Hands-on activities that include making training instruments will support practical care and practice of their instrument.  Be prepared to train new muscles through stretches and light exercises, as playing any instrument requires similar discipline to playing a sport. Students will leave ready to make beautiful music!

WHAT TO BRING: Water bottle and a violin, if you have one

Ages 11-18 (minimum of one year of prior string lessons required):

Our summer strings intensive will equip students to develop their artistry in technique review, ear training, performance etiquette, note reading, and collaborative playing. Basic finger patterns, scales, and bow exercises will condition technique while musicality is advanced through focused listening, providing feedback, and developing confidence in performing. Students will learn the importance of taking care of their body through stretches, appropriate posture, and light exercises. All students will have the opportunity to perform at the end in solo and group pieces. Students will be prepared to apply these skills in their school or local ensemble and home practice.

WHAT TO BRING: Water bottle, a snack, and your stringed instrument
