2nd Annual Juneteenth, Pride, and Black Music Month Story Time

Presented by Lil' Miss Story Hour at America the Beautiful Park

On Saturday, June 19, 2021, Lil’ Miss Story Hour will partner with Colorado Springs Juneteenth Festival for the 2nd Annual Juneteenth, Pride, and Black Music Month Story Time event. The event promises to be a spectacular and enjoyable time for the entire family. Lil' Miss Story Hour will be celebrating the history of Juneteenth or Freedom Day, present-day Black 4th of July, Black History, Black culture, Black community, and Black heritage with a variety of artists, art forms, crafts, and picture books! Explorations include but are not limited to writing, illustrations, mathematics, music, and social experiences.
Book selections will include “Juneteenth For Mazie,” by Floyd Cooper, “I Am Perfectly Designed,” by Karamo and Jason Brown, “All Different Now” by Angela Johnson, and “Before John Was a Jazz Giant,” by Carole Boston-Weatherford.

Special guests will include, Philly Hip Hop Duo, Kuf Knotz and Christine Elise; Colorado Springs Drag Performer, Porsha DeMarco; Colorado Springs Hip Hop Dancer, Tyyrell; Colorado Springs Performance Artist, and Singer-Songwriter, Alpha the Musical; Colorado Springs and East Coast-based Hip Hop Dancer, Choreographer, and Instructor, Ron "Future of Hip Hop" Jules; Colorado Springs Spoken Word Poet, Rose Gold Poet; and Colorado Springs DJ, DJ ChloeBeeBlessed. Following the book readings and guest artist performances, there will be an art activity.

The event is open to the public, however, donations are strongly encouraged! Donations will be accepted for in-person attendees when they reserve their seats, as well as on site, the day of the event.
