Hurry Up To Slow Down: Film Camera Workshop

Hurry Up To Slow Down: Film Camera Workshop

Presented by Manitou Art Center at Manitou Art Center

The workshop will be hands-on and in the streets of Manitou Springs. This workshop/photography walk offers the opportunity to explore new and exciting areas and the more known ones as well. Discover more than the “tourist” aspect of street photography.

You will learn more about technique , mindfulness, lighting, creativity and most importantly learn to slow down using a film camera. Thinking about each shot you make. The end results will be entering the darkroom to develop your roll of film and make prints of your favorite frames. Get acquainted (again) with the darkroom or learn for the first time. Open to all levels of photographers. No digital cameras.

This is a 2 day workshop. Each day will be about 3 hours.

Day 1: Brief introduction and brief talk/lecture. We will then hit the ground running

Day 2: Darkroom time! You can check out a film camera or use your own.

Film is available to purchase from the MAC.

Darkroom Chemicals and paper will be provided by Brian Tryon.

4 shooters per workshop

Teacher: Brian Tryon

Brian W. Tryon is a self-taught photography and visual artist. A purist, believing that the snap is the final product. Everything you do is in-camera. No photoshop or any manipulations. Using photography as a way of self-healing, being in the moment, getting out of himself in a healthy way. Escaping through the lens. Shooting the weird; wonderful and spiritual side of life. The purpose of the final result: the photograph is to create emotion, make the viewer feel, and turn it on.

Portraiture is one of his favorite mediums along with street photography, travel photography, and lifestyle photography. Capturing the real emotion of the subjects. Finding lines and textures that are striking. To compose a photograph that pleases the eye, and to make the viewer ask questions. Brian is a Colorado native. He also teaches photography at Community Prep School. Working with at-risk youths. Teaching the basics of photography and using the form to express themselves, and, for a healthy escape rather than the unhealthy things they are used to. Brian manages the darkroom and teaches at The Manitou Art Center.
