Stargazers Theatre presents Reckless Kelly: high-powered Americana, on tour for their new dual-release of two albums.
For nearly 25 years, Reckless Kelly has graced the musical landscape with a high-powered form of Americana, equally rooted in raw passion, refined musicianship, and gritty authenticity. With the dual release of two new albums—American Jackpot and American Girls—the Idaho-bred band presents a beautifully detailed portrait of their beloved country, turning their nuanced songwriting to its many glories and tragedies. While one batch of songs centers on slice-of-life storytelling and the other explores the complexities of human connection, the collective body of work unfolds with a profound and often eye-opening attention to the subtleties of American life.
Opening for Reckless Kelly is The Red Mountain Boys: a hot new bluegrass supergroup lighting up the Pikes Peak region.
Alongtime staple of the scene, Alan Begley (Willie Bean Bluegrass) fronts the Boys with his Martin flat-top guitar. Lewis Mock(Kansas State Hall-of-Fame musician, Radford & Lewis Band) brings the fire with his five-string banjo. Jon Murphy (Grandpa’s Cough Medicine, The Grass is Dead) keeps the Boys rock solid with his metronome-like bass playing. Jeff Daugherty (2014 John Hartford Songwriting Award winner) plays his mandolin like a man possessed.
Take their instrumental prowess, add in four-part vocal harmonies and world-class songwriting and LOOK OUT – it’s a recipe for powerful, hard-driving bluegrass music.
