Make Colorado Springs a safer place to grow old: Highlighting Silver Key’s senior assistance services using story maps and big data.
Dr. Gia Barboza and Dr. Diep Dao will be presenting.
Colorado Springs has a growing proportion of older adults - 11% of the population of Colorado Springs are seniors. In addition, the proportion of Colorado Springs' population that is 60 and older is growing more rapidly than other components of the population. The results of this study represent a collaboration between Silver Key and UCCS for a purpose of examining how demographic community-level risk factors vary by geographic region within Colorado Springs. Individual data on seniors receiving services was acquired from Silver Key and overlaid on neighborhood risk factors. Interactive web-basked mapping and correlation analyses reveal associations between aging risk factors and neighborhood characteristics.
