Artist Statement:

I was born in Colorado Springs in 1992 and from a very young age I was enthralled with the natural world. That fascination quickly focused on insects, more specifically butterflies! My parents fostered this love by providing me my very own garden space in 7th grade (2004) and I got to work turning it into a pollinator paradise. This garden would be home to multiple species of butterflies as well as a hub for insect life in the yard. Upon graduating high school in 2010 I got a job at a local garden center/nursery and that is where my passion took flight! I was able to educate others on how to construct sustainable habitats for butterflies with organic and natural practices. I would raise multiple species in store to share the wonder of metamorphosis with the public and show why they are a key part of our ecosystem. Then in August 2018, I decided to resurrect my old knowledge of pinning insect specimens I gained as a kid and spread 2 male Monarch butterflies that had passed on while living in my butterfly habitat at the garden center. These became my first 2 Insect taxidermy displays. That shot me down a rabbit hole of where to find ethical insect specimens, how to sell my art, how to start a business, etc. All while keeping in mind supporting the environment and highlighting pollinators in my native habitats. Now here we are! In 2021, I have officially become Cronk Art Co. LLC! While my road here has taken many turns, one thing has been consistent, supporting the environment and protecting butterflies.
