In this presentation we will explore the history of fires in the state, the adaptations that many of the plants and animals gained to be successful in fire ecosystems, and the future of fires in Colorado.
From the moment settlers first came to Colorado, they began to suppress the natural wildfires of the land. And they did it understandably so, they didn’t want their new homes and farms to burn to the ground. However, Colorado’s ecosystems had adapted to frequent wildfires.
In this presentation we will explore the history of fires in the state, the adaptations that many of the plants and animals gained to be successful in fire ecosystems, and the future of fires in Colorado. Come learn why wildfires are necessary for the health of the forests both here in the Front Range as well as through out the rest of the Rockies.
