McAllister House Museum's Regional History Lecture Series

Presented by McAllister House Museum at Online/Virtual Space

The Fountain Colony, and the other Colonies that developed on the high plains of eastern Colorado, constituted the second major wave of white settlement in the State. These settlements were conceptualized by organized groups from cities in the Midwest and the East that followed the railroad into the state. Each Colony was organized in a unique manner but developed their local economy under either an agricultural model or a commerce based model. As Executive Director of the Colorado Springs Company, Henry McAllister was put in charge of the Colony's development.

In this talk, Mr. Metzger will describe the model that the Fountain Colony was based on and will reveal Major McAllister's role in the Colonies development. Mr. Metzger will also talk about some sub-surface artifacts that have been recovered from the property and their relationship to the McAllister family.
