Campfire Theater presents ‘Promise of the Garden,’ a fast, funny, outdoor tragedy at Bear Creek Park’s Nature Center!
Campfire Theater is proud to present the world premiere of 'Promise of the Garden' this summer at Bear Creek Park Colorado Springs! We’re working hard right now to put on the best show we can for you. Hope to see you in a few months!
We’ll be performing every Friday and Saturday night from July 22-August 13. The show will start at the Bear Creek Park Nature Center at 6:30 p.m., run for ~120 minutes, and will involve approximately 1.5 mile hike. As there have been reports of a black bear in the area, we ask that you do not bring food to the performance.
Promise of the Garden:
Mark Lowe wanted to know how far and wild a person still can go in America. So he takes a job at a scientific research station as deep in the western woods as he can, only to learn there’s someone out there wilder still–his company’s golden goose, a missing botanist named Pomona. When wildfires threaten Pomona’s field camp, Mark treks out to find her and bring her back.
But as he and his companions leave even the last vestige of civilization behind, it becomes less and less clear what they’re going to find. As the forest glowers, the wolves hunt, howling, and the fire’s column towers tall above, they seem to travel to some older and forgotten time. What is Pomona doing? Who are these people that she’s gathered to her? Has she lost her mind? Has she been touched by the divine? How far before they lose their way back home?
Written in iambic pentameter and a verse that shifts to match the story’s mood, Promise of the Garden brings Conrad’s classic from Belgian Africa to America, today.
