UberLand pulls back the curtain on the labor issues surrounding Uber and the gig economy.
Every month Chinook Center shows films which highlight social issues and movements that address social injustices in an effort to encourage and empower communities to work towards collective liberation. This month, Chinook Center presents: UberLand. UberLand pulls back the curtain on the labor issues surrounding Uber and the gig economy. It’s the story of a scandal-ridden startup that upended transportation, defied regulators, decimated the taxi industry, and ended up cannibalizing its own drivers. The film follows San Francisco Uber drivers Eric Robin Antonio and Xavier as these independent contractors navigate the gig economy where many workers have meager earnings and few labor protections. UberLand features interviews with workers and Silicon Valley thought leaders and asks us to consider the true cost of taking an Uber.
The film showing will be followed with a discussion by the Colorado Independent Drivers Union.
Free refreshments will be provided.
The Chinook Center is a progressive, mission driven community space that empowers and connects people and grassroots organizations working for social, economic and environmental justice in the Pikes Peak region.
