The Crumb Legacy Concerts

The Crumb Legacy Concerts

Presented by Colorado College Music Department at Colorado College: Packard Hall

The Crumb Legacy is a two-day event at Colorado College featuring concerts of works composed by George Crumb and nine of his former students, which include CC Music Department professor Ofer Ben-Amots. The compositions will be performed by CC performance faculty, students, and special guests.

The concerts are set for Oct. 12 and 13, beginning at 7:30 each evening in Packard Performance Hall. A pre-concert lecture starts at 6:30 p.m. prior to each concert. All events are free and open to the public and include a display in the lobby of Packard Hall with photographs and composition samples that provide insight into Crumb’s life, works, and special connection with Colorado College.

In addition to Ben-Amots, composers featured during the Oct. 12-13 concerts include Jennifer Barker, professor of composition/theory at the University of Delaware; David Crumb, son of George Crumb and professor of composition at the University of Oregon; Michael Fiday, professor of composition at the College-Conservatory of Music at University of Cincinnati; Jennifer Higdon, Pulitzer Prize- and Grammy-winning composer; Pierre Jalbert, professor of music at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music; Robert Maggio, professor and chairman of the Department of Music Theory, History and Composition at West Chester University’s School of Music; Robert G. Patterson, resident composer with the Luna Nova Ensemble; and Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon, professor of composition at the Eastman School of Music.

CC junior music major Emmett Tucker will open each of the concerts on piano with Crumb’s works. Performers during the two concerts also include CC artist-in-residence and senior lecturer Susan Grace and Steven Beck, both separately on piano and together as Quattro Mani; CC performance faculty Paul Nagem on flute, Monica Ding on oboe, and Jeri Jorgensen on violin; Sergei Vassiliev, of Colorado Springs, on clarinet; John Kinzie, of Denver, on percussion; and the Academy Winds ensemble from the United States Air Force Academy Band.
