The fourth concert of the Chamber Orchestra season – a Valentine’s Day preview full of riveting dance music!
The influence of dance in the Baroque is unmistakable, so it’s a Valentine’s Day preview to get your feet tapping. You’ll meet a new (to many of you) instrument in a rare concerto for oboe d’amore (Italian for “oboe of love”). Audience favorites Jacob Klock and Elisa Wicks offer a rare performance of a duo concertante by Mozart’s Paris friend, Joseph Boulogne. The stateliness is interrupted by the Jumble Dance, Raucous Rumpus and Machina Rockus of American composer Jennifer Higdon’s Dance Card before a return to the more staid dances of Bach’s timeless Brandenburg Concerto No. 3.
