Few Colorado residents know the influence of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) had on Denver in the 1920s.  Ms. Shaun Boyd, History Colorado Curator of Archives will present on how the Klan pressured local governments,  why it differed from the KKK of the South & why it grew to over 30,000 enrollees before dwindling & losing influence. Little has been written about Colorado’s KKK. Shaun has presented for the Castle Rock Historical Society on the same subject and proves to be of interest to many for an unfortunate chapter in Colorado history.

Members of the Ku Klux Klan lived in every corner of Denver during the racist, anti-immigrant hate group’s brief reign in the 1920s.

Staff at History Colorado spent more than 300 hours logging by hand & mapping each address listed in the nearly 30,000 entries in two ledgers in the organization’s collection that document the membership of the Denver KKK chapter from approximately 1924 through 1926. The Klan was stronger in Colorado than any other state. How did the Klan gain power so quickly?
