'How to Stay Safe in the Wilderness'

Class Description
The objective of this course is for participants to gain confidence and competence when going into the wilderness while minimizing impact to the ecosystem being utilized. We’ll cover how to prepare for the wilderness, what information to know before going, and how to best practice leave no trace principles.

About the Instructor
Mary has over 30 years of outdoor experience in various modalities.  She has received her Master’s degree in Outdoor Management from the University of Wisconsin and currently teaches wilderness skills with Pikes Peak State College.  She further honed her skills by taking additional courses in backcountry survival and navigation. Also, Mary is certified as a Wilderness First Responder.  She has real world experience in leading multi-day group excursions and solo long distance backpacking treks. multi-day exposure in the wilderness while long distance backpacking and leading groups.  She hopes to share her joy and knowledge of being in nature so that others can gain confidence and competence to do the same.
