Kombucha Brewing Class

Kombucha Brewing Class

Presented by Sustainable Educational Experience at Phelan Gardens

Brewing kombucha at home is an easy, inexpensive hobby to channel your creativity while producing a fresh probiotic! In this class, we’ll cover the basics of starting and maintaining a kombucha SCOBY (symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast). You’ll learn about first and second fermentations, flavoring and bottling, and troubleshooting common problems. Participants will be provided with pellicles to start their own SCOBY at home!

About the Instructors:
Addison Rhodes and Alli Deist are kombucha brewing enthusiasts who are excited to share their knowledge with the community! Addison has been brewing and experimenting with his SCOBY for several years. What began as a simple Saturday science project has since developed into an extremely fun and rewarding hobby for him.  Alli is fascinated with all living organisms and enjoys connecting with the natural world through cultivating her SCOBY. After consuming store-bought kombucha for over a decade, she decided to start brewing kombucha at home to save money and was surprised at how easy it is. Both Alli and Addison love the creative freedom of home brewing and enjoy connecting home fermentation to microbiology knowledge from their biology educations.
