March Monthly Lecture: Donna W. Guthrie

March Monthly Lecture: Donna W. Guthrie

Presented by Western Museum of Mining & Industry at Western Museum of Mining and Industry

Cowboy songs were written to glorify the life of the cowboy and the \"Wild West.\" Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, and Tex Ritter are a few familiar names whose music was part of the era of singing cowboys in Western movies. Troubadours on Horseback, The History of Singing Cowboys is a musical lecture featuring the simple melodies, harmonies, and instrumentation of cowboy songs. Through music, slides, and movie clips, children\'s author Donna Guthrie celebrates the Western boom that took over Holly wood in the 1930s and the creation of the singing cowboy.

Donna W. Guthrie is a writer, playwright, documentary filmmaker, and lecturer. She is the author of twenty-four books, sixty educational video podcasts for children, three animated films, and four award-winning documentaries. Donna holds a BA in Journalism from Rider University, Lawrenceville, New Jersey, and MFA in Children\'s and Young Adult Literature from Vermont College, Montpellier, Vermont. She co-founded the Rocky Mountain Women\'s Film Festival, the longest-running female film festival in North America. Donna is on a quest to visit the fourteen Presidential Libraries when she is not writing or attending film festivals!
