Annually, the Friends of PPLD select authors of the West for recognition and award. This Year’s winners are W. Michael Gear & Kathleen O’Neal Gear and Barbara Nickless. Additionally, the Friends will present the first Best Friend Award to Peggy Shivers.
The 30th annual Frank Waters Award will be presented to the Gear writing duo, who have more than 17 million books in print: some written together and others separately. W. Michael Gear and Kathleen O'Neal Gear of Cody, Wyoming, have written extensively about the people, culture, landscapes, and spirit West. The Gears have received a number of awards nation-wide, and their books have appeared in 29 different languages.
Barbara Nickless of Colorado Springs, author of a series of best-selling crime novels, will receive the Golden Quill Award, reserved for local authors who exhibit excellence in writing and storytelling. She also has been the recipient of many other awards.
Peggy Shivers, a well-known and well-loved community benefactor, will receive the inaugural Best Friend Award.
The tickets for the presentation and luncheon are $45.
