Archangelo Corelli's use of harmony, form and style set the 17th musical world ‘on its ear’ and created an unmistakable foundation on which the music of countless future generations would be written. For this program, we are joined by guest violinist Carla Moore, one of the foremost baroque violinists of our generation. Carla Moore bio
Carla Moore is one of America’s foremost Baroque violinists acclaimed for her stylish and virtuosic playing. A First Prize winner of the Erwin Bodky Competition for Early Music, she is co-concertmaster of Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra where she has been a member for over twenty-five years.  She is concertmaster of Portland Baroque Orchestra and co-founder and director of Archetti Baroque String Ensemble, a conductor-less Baroque string band.

Carla began her career in New York City where she performed with many leading period instrument conductors and groups. She has performed and toured with London Classical Players under Sir Roger Norrington, the Bach Ensemble with Joshua Rifkin, Tafelmusik and Handel and Haydn Society with Christopher Hogwood. She has performed at international music festivals in Utrecht, Regensburg, Bruges, London and Göttingen as well as at the Carmel and Oregon Bach Festivals and the Boston and Berkeley Early Music Festivals.

Since settling in Oakland, California, Carla has served as concertmaster and performed as soloist throughout the West Coast. She has enjoyed collaborations with Pacific Baroque Orchestra, Santa Fe Pro Musica, Pacific MusicWorks, Musica Angelica and Seattle Baroque Orchestra. As a chamber musician, she has recorded a CD of music by Handel and Hellendaal with Archetti Baroque Strings, seven critically acclaimed CDs with the ensemble Music’s Re-creation and three with Voices of Music, including her own interpretation of violin sonatas by J. S. Bach. Her videos with Voices of Music have been viewed by millions worldwide on YouTube.

Carla delights in educating students in Baroque style and teaches at the University of California, Berkeley, and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She has led masterclasses at the University of Puget Sound, Northwestern University and the University of Utah and taught at the Amherst Early Music Festival. Carla received her undergraduate training from the University of Southern California and earned a Master of Music with Distinction from Indiana University’s Early Music Institute where she studied with Stanley Ritchie. In her free time, Carla is an avid hiker and enjoys immersing herself in the mountains of California and the deserts of Utah.
