Midge and the Butcher is a story about claiming your place in the world with just a little help from a friend.
Springs Ensemble Theatre (SET) is proud to present Midge and the Butcher, a brand new play by up-and-coming local playwright and SET member Quinn Smola. Directed by Sarah Sheppard Shaver, this world premiere performance will be the first to take place in SET’s new home in The Fifty-Niner, a speakeasy located at 2409 W. Colorado Ave. in the heart of Old Colorado City.
After staging a completely sold out reading of Midge and the Butcher last season, SET is excited to present a full production of the play to open their 14th season of providing intimate live theatre to the Pikes Peak region.
The play features Midge (played by Rose Mitchell), a recently-out trans teen who has been having some troubles with a former-friend-turned-bully (Gabriel Meadows). With school about to start and no clear allies, Midge does the only thing she can think of to make sure she has protection: she summons a demon from Hell, hoping to make a deal. Xantheus the Butcher (Isaiah Culling) enters her life, and hilarity, horror, and heart ensue.
SET is also proud to be partnering with Inside Out Youth Services on a series of events in conjunction with the production. (Event details below.)
