Cottonwood Center for the Arts is pleased to present Hammered, the work of Bret Christopher Poplos for the month of January.

Bret’s process focuses on the desire to create what is imagined, and what is beyond the expected.

Several recurring subjects can be recognized, such as references to popular culture and media.

Using provocative repetition, this becomes an investigation into the process of the viewers’ expectations.

The works produced are characterized by everyday objects and people in an atmosphere of abstraction in which recognition plays an important role.

This allows Bret to focus on the idea of “imagined space” and more specifically on spaces where anyone or anything can be ambiguous or literal at any moment.

The evolution of his process is highlighted by the materials used in the creation, turning everyday things into extraordinary ideas.
