Book Launch Celebration

Presented by University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) at UCCS - The Heller Center

Acclaimed writers Nadia Colburn, Sasha Steenson, and Mary Margaret Alvarado come together for one night in a collective celebration of their new books.

Offering a writing workshop in addition to poetry readings from each of the authors, this event will culminate in a reception and book signing.

Taking place at the scenic Heller Center, this is a literary experience you won't want to miss!

Sasha Steensen is the author of six books of poems: House of Deer, The Method, A Magic Book, Gatherest, Everything Awake, and Well.

Recent essays have appeared in Tupelo Quarterly, Interim, and Essay Press. Steensen teaches Creative Writing and Literature at Colorado State University, where she was named the 2023 Stern Distinguished Professor.

She is a poetry editor for Colorado Review and an editor for the Test Site Poetry Series.

Nadia Colburn is the author of two books of poetry, The High Shelf and I Say the Sky.

Her writing has been widely published in more than eighty national publications including The New Yorker, American and Poetry Review, and has won numerous awards, including a PEN/NE Discovery Award in Poetry.

A founding editor at the spirituality and social justice magazine, Anchor, she is currently a writer-in-residence at Northeastern's Center For Spirituality, Dialogue and Service, a Research Scholar at the Ronin Institute.

She is the founder of Align Your Story, and teaches mindful writing to students around the world via the online writing courses, Align Your Story and Write From Your Center.

Mary Margaret Alvarado is the author of Hey Folly, American Weather, and Chrome of Iris.

Her writing has appeared in the Kenyon Review, National Poetry Review, the Iowa Review, and numerous more periodicals.

She was an editorial assistant at Harper's Magazine, an Iowa Arts Fellow and Provost's Post-Graduate Writing Fellow at the University of Iowa, and the Romaine Coombe Writer-in-Residence at Cincinnati's Seven Hills School.

She has been shortlisted for the Rona Jaffe and the George A. and Eliza Gardner Howard Foundation Fellowship, and twice cited in The Best American.
