'Functionally Scattered'

Presented by Cottonwood Center for the Arts at Cottonwood Center for the Arts

With meticulous attention to the intention of every detail, Samantha’s works are equal parts sculpture and story telling.

From the artist:

I have a lot of roles in life right now: mother, wife, teacher, daughter, artist, all with varying needs and expectations to meet.

All of which I am grateful to be, although finding a perfect balance can be challenging.

I believe this is why I sometimes find it hard to tie myself down to just one way of making art.

I make my artwork in small available moments, because that’s where it fits right now intermingled between all of the other parts of my life.

Art is something that has always been part of my life, from watching my grandma construct quilts or seeing my dad do woodwork to my current career as an art teacher.

I experiment with varying mediums in my work because I find it exciting and engaging to try something new.

I make art that brings me joy through the process of making it or seeing the joy that it brings to the viewer.
