'Voracious' and 'The Story'

'Voracious' and 'The Story'

Presented by Shutter & Strum at Disruptor Gallery @ Shutter&Strum

Join us at Disruptor Gallery for our art show opening, featuring Kate Hertz and Emily Solomon.

Kate Hertz is a local playwright, performer, and mixed media collage artist, whose work is mostly made from found materials: secondhand supplies, thrift store magazines, repurposed fabric, and anything cool that catches the eye.

“Although I've distanced myself from some aspects of my Evangelical upbringing, the concept and language of an all-consuming love has stuck with me. Some things are worth getting hurt over, worth sacrificing things for, worth being hungry for, and are worth putting above yourself (to an extent). Some pieces in this show explore the more sinister places this can go, but even the darker side of obsession has its own beauty. It's cliche, but the ugly feelings of grief, anxiety, and jealousy serve as proof that we cared so much about something that the thought of losing it feels like Hell. I hope you find something outside of yourself that consumes you."

Emily Solomon's work, regardless of subject, features a limited color palette with acrylic paints, and a controlled composition.

While she has explored many different subjects with her work, including landscapes, animals, and abstract florals, her passion is with portraiture.

"I’ve experienced some great losses. I grappled with this concept of “destiny” more than ever - and started scribbling down a book about grief, loss, and exploring our potential to create our own paths and destinies. I kept it to myself. Now, in my own journey, I’m trying to learn how to be vulnerable. I never finished the book, but I have enough."

Come see the show and enjoy a night of art and refreshements.
