Anna Deavere-Smith: Doing Time in Education

Presented by Colorado College at Kathryn Mohrman Theatre (formerly Armstrong)

As research for her new work, noted actress and public intellectual Anna Deavere-Smith created “the Pipeline Project” as a way to apply her signature form of documentary theatre to investigate the school-to-prison pipeline. Now more than ever we need a moral imagination to put a face on the challenges faced by minority youth and to animate policy conversations around this and other issues of social inequality. A panel of Colorado College faculty and other regional experts in education and incarceration will explore the historical antecedents and contemporary valence of Smith’s discussion in a panel discussion in Celeste Theatre, Cornerstone Arts Center, on the following evening, Tuesday, March 1, 7 p.m. Special thanks to Tori Winkler Thomas ’68, P14 and Victoria Thomas ’14 for their generous support.
