The Colorado Archaeological Society (CAS) was founded in 1935 by C.T. Hurst of Gunnison. CAS today has several chapters active statewide, one of which is the Pikes Peak Chapter (PPC), chartered in January 1983.

The Chapter and Society welcome as members any person, amateur or professional, who is interested in the study of Colorado archaeology. Objectives of the organization include to: stimulate research in archaeology, encourage protection of archaeological resources, protect antiquities of the state and local area, participate in a comprehensive mapping of Colorado sites, provide an avenue for further education in the field of archaeological investigation, and share experience and expertise with others.

Monthly speakers present information on a variety of prehistoric and historic archaeological topics and other topics. Membership is open to anyone who is interested in learning about and protecting Colorado’s cultural history. Members have opportunities to take fun and informational field trips, attend statewide conferences, seminars, workshops and learn more about archaeology through PAAC (Program for Avocational Archaeological Certification) classes taught by the Assistant State Archaeologist for Colorado.
