This mural titled “Boxst’8 Native” was created by Mario Sanchez in 2018. It resembles a Colorado State license plate. The green letters spell out the word “NATIVE” and the white empty space spell the letters “BOXST8” (an anagram for “Box State” i.e. the state of Colorado whose shape looks like a box.)
This technique of creating letters with negative space is referred to as an ambigram.
