If Dreams Were Thunder

The dedication on this mural on the west wall of 743 Manitou in Manitou Springs says that most of the mural was completed by Kerry Kice in 2016.

Over three years, starting in 2013, Kerry painted the sky and clouds above the windows, the moon, the crows, the smaller blossoms, tree and a ribbon with the words “If dreams were thunder and lightning was desire this old house would have burned down a long time ago.” This quote is from the song titled “Angel from Montgomery” written by John Prine in 1971.

The large pink blossoms were painted in 2010 by students from Emily Griffith Opportunity Center as part of a workshop facilitated by Lance Green.

All the aspects of the mural carry special meaning for the building owner especially the quote which is representative of a universally human dynamic. (Source: conversation with the artist and building owner)
