Liberation Through Knowledge

This mural was painted by Aurelio Diaz Tekpankalli (of Mexico) in 1986 is and formally titled “Liberacion a Traves del Conocimiento,” or “Liberation Through Knowledge.” This work was commissioned by CU Colorado Springs and funded by the Facilities Fund. The artist’s intent was to recognize the link between knowledge and the multicultural nature of the region’s past and present. The focal point of the painting is the Nina Cosmica, the cosmic child, a symbol of knowledge of the universe. The painting also addresses unity and taking care of the earth as it celebrates the religion of family. See the photos below for details of the painting. The title of the book in the painting translates as “Liberation Through Knowledge.” The text of the book in the painting translates as “We ask our children not to forget to inform their children– How to join together! How to Rise up! How to achieve power and how to complete our village! Your great destiny!” (Source: Dedication Plaque)
