The Chalice

This mural by artist, Jantzen Peake was created in 2019 on the west-facing wall in the upper patio of the gallery and coffee shop, The Peake gallery in the Perk Downtown. This mural is reminiscent of the Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland. Note that the tree on the left goes from grey scale to full color transitioning into a caterpillar and then to a crazed Cheshire like cat.  The one-eyed owl resting on the tree, lower left is one of the artist’s trademark characters hidden within many of his works. Since most of the artist’s complexed ideas come around 3am. The “One Eyed Owl” is also significant of the Third Eye, wisdom in the forehead of a deity, “the eye of insight.”

The chalice with a heart shape that the cat like creature is holding seems to have mystical steam or smoke rising from the top. The artist reveals the two hidden bird heads in the smoke that where unintentional from the initial sketch: many reasons as to why this particular muralist enjoys the act of creation.
