Will Rogers Memorial Shrine of the Sun

This series of murals was painted in 1937 by Santa Fe artist Randall Davey and is titled “Memories of a Lifetime in the Pikes Peak Region,” but is better known as the “Will Rogers Memorial Shrine to the Sun.” The murals are painted on the cement interior walls of the building as a testament to the history of Pikes Peak region in general and specifically to the life and times of Spencer Penrose. After the death of Will Rogers, the building was dedicated to his memory and the building was named the “Will Rogers Memorial Shrine of the Sun.” Davey taught at the Broadmoor Art Academy from 1925 to 1930.
