McAllister House Museum

McAllister House, a charming brick and limestone Gothic-style cottage, is one of the first substantial dwellings constructed in Colorado Springs. Built a year and a half after the city was founded, when most houses were of vernacular frame construction, it is the oldest house still standing. Major Henry McAllister, a longtime military and business associate of General William Jackson Palmer, was chosen to be the Director for the Colorado Springs Company. The Colonial Dames have authentically restored the house with beautiful period pieces.  Original details include marble fireplaces and floor-to-ceiling pocket windows. In 1960, The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in the State of Colorado rescued the house from destruction and has owned and operated it since that time.
