Soria (USA), and Kurt Weston (USA). Inspired by a statement from Cyrée Jarelle Johnson in the book Black Futures, Everyone I Know Is Sick examines how our society excludes disabled and sick people by upholding a false dichotomy of health and sickness. Inviting us to understand disability as a common experience rather than an exception to the norm, the program highlights a range of experiences spanning HIV, COVID, mental health, and aging. The commissioned artists foreground the knowledge and expertise of disabled and sick people in a world still… |

What Kinda Brown Are You
What Kinda Brown Are You Presented by Disruptor Gallery @Shutter&Strum at Disruptor Gallery Dec 01, 2023 Concept of show: Several Colorado Springs local "brown" artists will have their portraits taken then overlap their culture or story of identity. There will also be a video projected or shown somewhere in the show. Reason for the show: The question "what type of brown are you?" is something that many non-white people encounter. This question pulls apart the identity of the individual and forces them to be solely defined to the color of their skin and not who they are as a human. The artists in the show will have the opportunity to express their identity with holding agency to their own story of who they are as a person within the portraits. This isn't just an art show. It's event. Celebrate with us. Pieces hung in the gallery are by artists in the center of it all. What Kinda Brown Are You is a reflection on other and… |
