This 7-session course is designed to provide students with a wide range of photo-editing skills. Participants need a strong set of basic computer skills to attend these classes.
This is a hands-on learning experience in which everyone will be provided a set of photographs to work with in real time as a technique or tool is being demonstrated.
You will need to bring your own laptop with the latest version of Photoshop CC, Lightroom Classic, Adobe Camera Raw, and Bridge installed. Use of a mouse is highly recommended.
Photoshop Elements is not taught in this course.
All sessions will be held at the Next Us Workspace
Session 1: The Basics
In the first session, you will learn how to navigate the menus and palettes, customize the workspace, use keyboard shotcuts, and open, view, resize and save files in various formats, and use the crop and straighten tools. You will also learn how to use many of the adjustment tools, such as levels, color correction, contrast, exposure and shadow/highlight.
Sessions 2 & 3: Photo Editing in Adobe Camera Raw and Lightroom Parts 1 & 2
In these classes we will dive deep into the tools used in both programs to edit RAW images. Adobe Camera Raw, which is part of Photoshop, and the Develop Module in Lightoom are almost exactly the same since they use the identical processing engine.
It is recommended that you register for sessions 2 and 3 to get the best understanding Adobe Camera Raw and Lightroom’s Develop Module..
You will learn how to:
- Make basic image adjustments.
- Use the graduated filter, radial filter, and various fix tools (spot removal tool, crop tool, adjustment brush, etc.).
- Apply curve, lens correction, HSL and other adjustments.
- Work with multiple files.
- Create and utilize presets and snapshots.
Session 4: Tools and Adjustments
In the 4th session, you will learn how to use the selection tools (marquee, lasso, magic wand, etc.) the transform, and the fix tools (healing brush, clone stamp, content aware, etc.).
Session 5: Layers Part 1
In the 5th session, you will learn the basics of using layers and will complete a project containing layers. Using layers is one of the most powerful aspects of Photoshop and is very important to learning how to increase your creativity and get the most out of your images.
It is recommended that you register for sessions 3 and 4 to get the best understanding of layers and layer masks.
Session 6: Layers Part 2
In the 6th session, you will learn how to apply layer masks and will work with several examples. Please bring one or two images files with you on a thumb drive that you would like to work with during this session. We will discuss what edits you would like to make and demonstrate how to accomplish them.
It is recommended that you register for sessions 5 and 6 to get the best understanding of layers and layer masks.
Session 7: Black and White, Selective Color, Panoramics
In the seventh session, you will learn how to make black and white photos, how to create images with selective color, how to stitch pictures together to make panoramics and how to stack images.
