Growing up surrounded by the sounds of classical and jazz music, Karen Mosbacher’s journey as an abstract expressionist painter developed utilizing a condition, (or gift, as she refers to it) known as a synesthesia; a perceptual phenomenon in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway Working with music of different genres, as well as poetry, story, and other auditory processes, Karen creates paintings full of rhythm, color, line work, texture, balance, and movement with imagines portraying vibrations of sound waves with thick and graceful textured layers of strokes.
Cottonwood Center for the Arts has been a nonprofit mainstay of the Colorado Springs arts community since 1997 and currently home to the largest group of creatives in Colorado Springs. The center offers educational programming, gallery shows and over 80 studio artists, a theater and classrooms.
