Artist Statement:
‘Contradictions’ is a reflection on the paradox of the natural and artificial worlds. Nature is simple, soft spoken, minimalistic; the artificial world is complex, shimmering and electric. These environments often have irreconcilable differences, and I am torn between my desire for both. I use a color palette that is a combination of both natural and bright pigments, inspired by things such as earth elements, urban lights, fashion and landscape photography, or modern architecture. Transparent washes and organic shapes are juxtaposed next to controlled lines, representing the contrasting physical forms abundant in our modern world. Life is messy, full of contradictions and paradoxes and that’s what keeps it interesting.
